An endemic epiphytic and saxicolous orchid of New Caledonia, Taeniophyllum oreophilum is an uncommon species distributed across Grande Terre from Boulari to Cantaloupai. T. oreophilum is found in high altitude humid forest at an altitudinal range of 760-1,500 m asl. Despite having an area of occupancy and an extent of occurrence equal to 108 and 5,210 km² respectively, T. oreophilum has no apparent threat, and is not thought to approach the requirements for listing as threatened. It is listed as Least Concern.
Geographical area
An endemic epiphytic and saxicolous orchid of New Caledonia, Taeniophyllum oreophilum is distributed across Grande Terre from Boulari to Cantaloupai.
Population
This is an uncommon species. Population size is unknown due to lack of data.
Habitat
Taeniophyllum oreophilum is found in high altitude humid forest at an altitudinal range of 760-1,500 m asl.
Threats
T. oreophilum does not seem threatened.
Conservation
Taeniophyllum oreophilum is protected by legislation in Province Sud and in Province Nord. It occurs in numerous protected areas: Réserve Naturelle du Mont Do, Réserve Naturelle du Mont Humboldt, Réserve Naturelle du Mont Mou, Réserve Intégrale de la Montagne des Sources, Réserve Naturelle de la Vallée de la Thy, Réserve de Nature Sauvage du Massif de l’Aoupinié, and Réserve Naturelle de la Haute Yaté.
