in Southern Province , in Northern ProvincePterostylis ophioglossa is a native terrestrial orchid found in New Caledonia, from Pandelaï in the north of Montagne des Sources to the south of the Grande Terre and also at Ile des Pins. It is found in dry forest and Savana at an altitude range of 20-1300 m asl. This species is not globally threatened. Due do the confusions between P.ophioglossa, P. splendens et P.repandum, P.ophioglossa is assigned as Data Deficient (DD).

Population
Population size is unknown.
Habitat
It is found in dry forest, savana and sometimes under niaoulis or Araucaria forests, in schistose rocks, sometimes at an altitude range of 20-1300 m asl.
Threats
This species is not globally threatened but some populations can be impacted by mining activity: Koniambo (KNS).
Conservation
In order to assess the extinction risk of the species, it is essential to let the local botanists know about the need of a complete description of the species. It is also necessary to check the species herbarium samples.
