in Northern ProvinceSarcochilus gildasii is an endemic epiphyte orchid of New Caledonia, known only from Dzumac-Ouinné-Rivère bleue area in Grande Terre (main island). S. gildasii occurs in dense humid forest and seems to grow up preferentially on Nothofagus trees. Due to its tiny size and the fact it is growing very high on trees, S. gildasii does not appear threatened. S. gildasii qualifies thus as Least Concern (LC).
Geographical area
S. gildasii is an endemic epiphyte orchid of New Caledonia, known only from Dzumac-Ouinné-Rivère bleue area in Grande Terre (main island). Due to the difficulty to observe it, its distribution area might be larger than what is figured by actual observations.
Population
There is no known detailed population information about S. gildasii.
Habitat
S. gildasii occurs in dense humid forest and seems to grow up preferentially on Nothofagus tree.
Threats
There are no particular threats associated with this species.
Conservation
S. gildasii is protected by legislation in Province Nord and Province Sud. S. gildasii occurs in one protected area : réserve naturelle de la Haute Yaté.
