Tinadendron kajewskii is a native tree from New Caledonia and Vanuatu. In New Caledonia, it is only found in the Loyalty Islands (Lifou, Maré), where it grows in low elevation high forest on calcareous substrate. Its area of occupancy (AOO) and extent of occurrence (EOO) are 44 and 92,148 km², respectively. This species might be impacted by traditional agriculture and livestock ranching, but globally it does not seem threatened in New Caledonia. Therefore, it is listed as Least Concern (LC).
Geographical area
In New Caledonia, this species is found on two Loyalty Islands: Lifou and Maré, where it is common. In Vanuatu, it has been found on Mawéo, Erromango and Anatom.
Population
Population size is unknown in New Caledonia, but field observations indicate that it is common in Maré. Although seemingly uncommon in Lifou, it is well known by the local population (Butaud, comm. pers.).
Habitat
In New Caledonia, this species is found in low elevation high forest on calcareous substrate up to 120m asl.
Threats
This species might be impacted by traditional agriculture and livestock ranching, but globally it does not seem threatened in New Caledonia.
Conservation
T. kajewskii is not protected by legislation in New Caledonia and does not occur in any protected areas.
