Pycnandra sarlinii is an endemic tree of Grande Terre in New Caledonia. It is found from Poindimié in the north to Forêt de Saille in the south. It is found in high elevation dense humid forest on volcano-sedimentary substrate from 200 to 500 m asl. Some of the lower subpopulations may be impacted by invasive species such as rusa deer (Rusa timorensis) or bushfires, but globally this species does not seem threatened. Its area of occupancy (AOO) and extent of occurrence (EOO) being respectively estimated to be 28 and 3,012 km², Pycnandra sarlinii is considered Near Threatened (NT) close to VU B1ab(iii,v)+2ab(iii,v) with a decline of habitat quality and number of mature individuals.
Geographical area
Pycnandra sarlinii is an endemic tree of Grande Terre in New Caledonia, from Poindimié in the North to Forêt de Saille in the South.
Population
It is known from 7 subpopulations: Poindimié, Naraaja, Poarisi, Mépéou, Amieu, Dogny, Forêt de Saille. But total population size is unknown.
Habitat
Pycnandra sarlinii is found in dense humid forest on volcano-sedimentary substrate from 200 to 500 m asl.
Threats
This species does not seem globally threatened. Some of the lower elevation subpopulations may be threatened by invasive species such as rusa deer (Rusa timorensis) or bushfires.
Conservation
Unprotected by legislation, this species is found in two protected areas : Parc des Grandes Fougères, Forêt de Saille.
