Least Concern (LC) , assessed in 02/05/2019Solmsia calophylla is an endemic shrub or tree mostly distributed in the Grand Massif Sud (from Yaté to col des Roussettes) and the south werstern massifs (from Boulinda to Kaala). This species occurs in dense humid forest, galery forest and shrubland on ultramafic substrate up to 1,000 m asl. This species is not globally threatened. Therefore with an extent of occurrence (EOO) equal to 9,851 km² and an area of occupancy (AOO) of 684 km², Solmsia calophylla is assessed as Least Concern (LC).
Geographical area
Solmsia calophylla is an endemic species of New Caledonia widely distributed in the Grand Massif Sud (from Yaté to col des Roussettes) and the south western massifs (from Boulinda to Kaala).
Population
Population size is unknown.
Habitat
Solmsia calophylla occurs in dense humid forest, galery forest and shrubland on ultramafic substrate up to 1,000 m asl.
Threats
This species does not seem globally threatened. However, some subpopulations may be impacted by mining activities at Ouazangou, Koniambo, Plateau, Vulcain, Nakéty, Goro, Kopeto.
Conservation
Solmsia calophylla is not protected by legislation in New Caledonia but it does occur in several protected areas: Massif du Kouakoué, Barrage de Yaté, Chutes de la Madeleine, Haute Dumbéa, Haute Yaté, la Dumbéa, Rivière bleue.
