Pancheria mcphersonii is an endemic shrub of north-east Grande Terre in New Caledonia. It is found in dense humid forest at high altitude on volcano-sedimentary substrate. The main threats impacting this species come from habitat degradation caused by invasive species (Feral pigs). Its area of occupancy (AOO) and extent of occurrence (EOO) being both estimated to 12 km², Pancheria mcphersonii is considered Endangered (EN) using criteria B1ab(iii)+2ab(iii) with an estimation of 2 locations and a decline of habitat quality.
Geographical area
This species is restricted to north-east Grande Terre in New Caledonia where it is known in two massifs (Ignambi and Panié/Colnett).
Population
It is known from two subpopulations. This species has probably a slow population dynamic.
Habitat
It is found in dense humid forest at high altitude (1,250-1,600 m asl) on volcano-sedimentary substrate.
Threats
The main threats impacting this species come from habitat degradation caused by invasive species (Feral pigs).
Conservation
Unprotected by legislation, this species is found in one protected area : Mont Panié This species would benefit from ex-situ conservation actions (seeds banking).
