Oxera longifolia is a slender or robust liana endemic to New Caledonia, largely distributed from south to north of Grande Terre. It occurs in dense humid and mesophilous forests on volcano-sedimentary substrate up to 800 m asl. Its extent of occurrence (EOO) and area of occupancy (AOO) are 9,643 and 232 km², respectively. This species does not seem threathened and is quite common and abundant. Therfore, O. longifolia is listed as Least Concern (LC).

Geographical area


O. longifolia is endemic to New Caledonia, and is largely distributed from the south to the north of Grande Terre.

Population


Population size is unknown but field observations show it is a common species.

Habitat


O. longifolia occurs in dense humid and mesophilous forest on volcano-sedimentary substrate, up to 800 m asl.

Threats


This species does not seem to be threatened, although some subpopulations may be impacted by fires, Rusa deer (Rusa timorensis) and feral pigs (Sus scrofa).

Conservation


This species is not protected by any legislation in New Caledonia, but it occurs in three protected areas: Vallée de la Thy, Aoupinié and Parc des Grandes Fougères. This species is cultivated at the IAC (Institut Agronomique de Nouvelle-Calédonie) nursery of Saint-Louis and some nurseries.
