Pycnandra cylindricarpa is an endemic tree restricted to the north-east part of Grande Terre in New Caledonia. It is found in humid forest on volcano-sedimentary substrate at an altitudinal range 450-1,270 m asl. The lower elevation subpopulations could be impacted by bushfires, but globally this species does not seem threatened. Its area of occupancy (AOO) and extent of occurrence (EOO) being respectively estimated to 40 and 1,425 km², Pycnandra cylindricarpa is considered Near Threatened (NT) close to VU B1ab(iii,v)+2ab(iii,v).

Pycnandra cylindricarpa is an endemic tree restricted to the north-east part of Grande Terre, from Aoupinié to Mont Colnett.

Population


It is known from six subpopulations: Mandjelia, Mont Colnett, Mont Panié (Wayem), Popomeou, Amoa Tchamba, Mt. Aoupinie. This species seems to be fairly common in Mont Colnett and more common that the actual distribution.

Habitat


Pycnandra cylindricarpa is found in humid forest on volcano-sedimentary substrate at an altitudinal range 450-1,270 m asl.

Threats


This species does not seem globally threatened. Some of the lowest subpopulations may be threatened by bushfires.

Conservation


Unprotected by legislation, this species is found in one protected area : Aoupinié.
