Pycnandra blaffartii is an endemic shrub/small tree of the north-east part of Grande Terre in New Caledonia. It is found in forest at high altitude on volcano-sedimentary substrate. The main threats impacting this species come from habitat degradation caused by invasive species (Feral pigs). Its area of occupancy (AOO) and extent of occurrence (EOO) being both estimated to 12 km², Pycnandra blaffartii is considered Endangered (EN) using criteria B1ab(iii)+2ab(iii) with an estimation of two locations and a decline of habitat quality.

Geographical area


Pycnandra blaffartii is endemic small tree or shrub restricted to the north-east part of Grande Terre, from Mont Colnett to Mont Panié.

Population


It is known from three subpopulations : Mont colnett, Tao and Mont Panié.

Habitat


This species is found in dense humid forest at high altitude (1250-1550 m asl.) on volcano-sedimentary substrate.

Threats


The main threats impacting this species come from habitat degradation caused by invasive species (Feral pigs).

Conservation


Unprotected by legislation, this species is found in one protected area : Mont Panié. This species would benefit from ex-situ conservation actions.
