Pycnandra ouaiemensis is a New Caledonian endemic shrub, that grows up to 3 m tall. It is restricted to the summits of Roche Ouaïème and Massif du Panié. It is found in altitudinal forest on ultramafic substrates. Bushfires on Roche Ouaïème constitute a potential threat. Pycnandra ouaiemensis is considered Vulnerable (VU) using criteria D2 because of its small area of occupancy (AOO) being estimated to be 8 km², with a potential threat that could drive the species to Critically Endangered in a short time.
Geographical area
Pycnandra ouaiemensis is endemic shrub up to 3 m tall restricted to summits of Roche Ouaïème and Massif du Panié in New Caledonia.
Population
It is known from two subpopulations : Ouaïème et La Guen.
Habitat
Pycnandra ouaiemensis is found in humid forest on volcano-sedimentary substrate at an altitudinal range 630-785 m asl.
Threats
This species does not seem directly threatened because of its altitudinal habitat. However, evidence of fires has been observed in Roche Ouaïème and constitute a potential threat.
Conservation
Unprotected by legislation, Pycnandra ouaiemensis occurs in one protected area: Mont Panié.
