Kanakomyrtus longipetiolata is a small endemic tree from New Caledonia, restricted to the northeast of Grande Terre. It occurs in humid forest on volcano-sedimentary substrates, generally at mid-altitude (500-660 m asl.) Its area of occupation (AOO) and extent of occurrence (EOO) are estimated to be 44 and 1,166 km², respectively. This abundant species does not seem directly threatened at the moment, so K. longipetiolata is listed as Least Concern (LC).

Geographical area

K. longipetiolata is endemic to New Caledonia, where it is restricted to the northeast of Grande Terre: from Ouégoa to La Guen and Aoupinié.

Population

Population size is unknown, but field observations indicate that K. longipetiolata is quite common.

Habitat

Threats

This species does not seem directly threatened at the moment.

Conservation

K. longipetiolata is not protected by lesgilation in New Caledonia but it does occur in two protected areas: Aoupinié and Mont Panié. Besides, as for the other species of this genus, prospection in the northeast is needed to collect more biological material.
