Least Concern (LC) , assessed in 17/11/2017Kanakomyrtus prominens is a small endemic tree from New Caledonia, where it is restricted to the northeast of Grande Terre. This species is found in humid forest on volcano-sedimentary substrate at medium elevation (400-900 m asl.) Its area of occupation (AOO) and extent of occurrence (EOO) are estimated at 40 and 887 km², respectively. This abundant species does not seem directly threatened at the moment, so K. prominens is listed as Least Concern (LC).
Geographical area
K. prominens is endemic to New Caledonia, where it is restricted to the northeast of Grande Terre, from Aoupinié to Diahot.
Population
Population size is unknown, but field observations indicate this species is common.
Habitat
K. prominens occurs in dense humid forest on volcano-sedimentary substrate between 400 and 900 m asl.
Threats
This species does not seem directly threatened.
Conservation
K. prominens is not protected by legislation in New Caledonia but it does occur in two protected areas: Aoupinié and Mont Panié.
