It grows in high or medium elevation dense humid forest on volcano-sedimentary substrate above 500 m asl. Its extent of occurrence (EOO) and area of occupancy (AOO) are 3,434 and 64 km², respectively, and no specific threats have been identified. Therefore, O. neocaledonica is listed as Least Concern (LC).
Geographical area
O. neocaledonica is endemic to New Caledonia, where it is quite widely distributed in the central and northeastern mountain range of Grande Terre, from Mts. Dzumac to the Amoa valley.
Population
Population size is unknown.
Habitat
This epiphytic fern grows in high or medium elevation dense humid forest on volcano-sedimentary substrate above 500 m asl.
Threats
No specific threats have been identified. But like other high elevation species, it could be impacted by climate change in the future.
Conservation
O. neocaledonica is not protected by legislation in New Caledonia, but it occurs in several protected areas: Massif du Kouakoué, Mont Humboldt, Aoupinié and Pic Ningua natural reserves, as well as Côte Oubliée provincial park.
