Taeniophyllum labatii is an endemic epiphytic orchid of New Caledonia which is initially known from only one collection on Mt Dzumac in the southern part of New Caledonia. Recent prospections have since managed to locate the species at Montagne des Sources, Nékando and Mont Humboldt in the Grand Massif du Sud. The species occurs in dense humid forest on peridotitic stones at an altitudinal range of 900 and 1,200 m asl. This species appears to be common at Nékando and it does not seem to be threatened at these locations. Therefore with an Area of Occupancy (AOO) and an Extent of occurrence (EOO) equal to 24 and 371 km², respectively, Taeniophyllum labatii is listed as Least Concern (LC).

Population

Population size is unknown. Field observations indicate a species that appears to be common at Humbolt and Nékando.

Habitat

Taeniophyllum labatii occurs in dense humid forest on peridotitic stones at an altitudinal range of 900 and 1,200 m asl.

Threats

Taeniophyllum labatii does not seem to be threatened as it occurs in deep forest areas.

Conservation

Taeniophyllum labatii is protected in Province Sud and in Province Nord legislation and it does occur in five protected areas: Mont Humboldt, Haute Dumbéa, Côte Oubliée, la Dumbéa, Montagne des sources. Rare orchid because discreet, T. labatii should be searched in high altitude dense humid forests such as Plateau de Dogny, Mt. Pembaï, Mont Do and Koghis.
