Acianthus veillonis is an endemic geophyte orchid of New Caledonia distributed discontinuously on Grande Terre with two sub-populations in the central part of Grande Terre (Tchingou and Tango), and the majority gathered on the extreme southern part of Grande Terre. A. veillonis occurs in humid forest at an altitudinal range 50-800 m asl. From field observations, population size could range from 1,000 to 2,500 mature individuals with an average sub-population size of 20 mature individuals. Using criteria D, A. veillonis qualifies as Near Threatened close to Vulnerable (VU) D1.

A. veillonis can be threatened by wild pigs.
Conservation
A. veillonis is protected by legislation in Province Nord and Province Sud. This species occurs also in numerous protected areas : Parc provincial de la Rivière Bleue, Parc de la Dumbéa, réserve naturelle de la Forêt Cachée, réserve intégrale de la Montagne des Sources, réserve naturelle de la Forêt Nord, réserve naturelle du Pic du Pin, réserve naturelle du pic du grand Kaori, réserve naturelle du barrage de Yaté.
