Liparis chalandei is an endemic geophytic orchid of New Caledonia, widely distributed on Grande Terre (main island) and Ile des Pins. It is a species of the undergrowth of humid forest and shrubland on ultramafic substrates, at an altitudinal range of 20-1,400 m asl. Despite having an area of occupancy of 224 km² and an extent of occurrence of 10,407 km², L. chalandei has no apparent threat, and is not thought to approach the requirements for listing as threatened. It is listed as Least Concern.

Habitat
Liparis chalandei is a species of undergrowth in humid forest and shrubland on ultramafic substrates at an altitudinal range 20-1,400 m asl. L. chalandei is also found on humid areas on rocks or on summits in cyperaceous vegetation.
Threats
L. chalandei does not seem threatened.
Conservation
Lipais chalandei is protected by legislation in Province Nord and occurs in numerous protected areas: Réserve Naturelle du Mont Do, Réserve Naturelle du Mont Humboldt, Réserve Naturelle du Massif du Kouakoué, Réserve Naturelle du Mont Mou, Réserve Intégrale de la Montagne des Sources, Parc Provincial de la Rivière Bleue, Réserve Naturelle de la Haute Yaté, Réserve Naturelle de la Vallée de la Thy, Réserve Naturelle du Barrage de Yaté, Réserve Naturelle de la Haute Dumbéa and Parc des Grandes Fougères.
