Pandanus decumbens is an endemic shrub of New Caledonia widespread on Grande Terre, as well as Ile des Pins and the Belep islands. P. decumbens is mainly found in shrubland and dry forest, but also wetlands and marshy areas on volcano-sedimentary and ultramafic rocks up to 850 m asl. Its extent of occurrence (EOO) and area of occupancy (AOO) are 15,057 and 160 km², respectively. P. decumbens does not seem globally threatened and is listed as Least Concern (LC).

Population size is unknown.

Habitat


P. decumbens is mainly found in shrubland and dry forest, but also wetlands and marshy areas on volcano-sedimentary and ultramafic rocks up to 850 m asl.

Threats


Pandanus decumbens does not seem threatened overall, but locally some subpopulations may be impacted by fire and mining activities (Poum, Tiebaghi, Koniambo, Plateau de Thio, Ada, Goro, Tomo).

Conservation


P. decumbens is protected by legislation in Province Nord. This species is found in several protected areas: la Dumbéa, Haute Dumbéa, Vallée de la Thy, Barrage de Yaté.
