Polyscias calophylla is an endemic tree/small tree of New Caledonia spread in north-west Grande Terre. It occurs in shrubland on ultramafic substrate at an altitudinal range 40 - 800 m asl. This species does not seem directly threatened. Polyscias calophylla is considered Least Concern (LC).

Despite bein sensitive to vegetation degradation linked to bushfires and mining activities, this species does not seem directly threatened thanks to wide distribution in the area.

Polyscias calophylla is not protected by local legislation. It does not occur in any protected area.
