Polyscias vieillardii ssp. balansae is an endemic tree of New Caledonia spread in Grande Terre from Ignambi in the north to Koghis in the south. It occurs in humid forest on volcano-sedimentary substrate at an altitudinal range 500- 1,000 m asl. This subspecies does not seem directly threatened. Polyscias vieillardii ssp. balansae is considered Least Concern (LC).
