Bocquillonia sessiliflora is an endemic shrub or small tree of New Caledonia growing up to 1 to 7 m high. It is widely distributed across Grande Terre as well as in Bélep islands, Loyalty Islands and Ile des Pins. B. sessiliflora occurs in dense humid forest on volcano-sedimentary and ultramafic substrates at an altitude range of 0 and 1,000 m asl. It has an Extent of Occurrence (EOO) equal to 55,232 km² and a minimum Area of Occupancy (AOO) of 284 km², but it does not appear to be significantly threatened at the moment. Therefore, B. sessiliflora is assessed as Least Concern (LC).

Threats
Bocquillonia sessiliflora does not seem to be threatened.
Conservation
Bocquillonia sessiliflora is not protected by legislation in Province Nord and it does occur in seven protected areas: Vallée de la Thy, Cap N'dua, Côte Oubliée, Haute Dumbéa, Ilot de Pam, la Dumbéa, Mont Mou. The experts note a high variability in this group and it can also contain multiple taxa that may deserve species-level recognition. Taxonomic and genetic studies are needed to confirm or refuting these assumptions.
