Endangered (EN) , assessed in 20/07/2022Eugenia pouemboutii is an endemic shrub from New Caledonia restricted to a small area of Plateau de Tiéa and Pic de Tiaoué. This two subpopulations are between Koné and Poya on the western coast of Grande Terre. It occurs in scrubland at an altitude range of 5 to 700 m asl. on serpentine substrate. Its area of occurrence (EOO) and area of occupancy (AOO) are both equal to 12 km² and 12 km², while the number of locations is equal to three. The main threats are linked to habitat damage by uncontrolled bushfires and potentially mining activities at Kopéto massif. Eugenia pouemboutii is considered Endangered EN under criteria B1ab (ii,iii,v)+B2ab(ii,iii,v), with an estimated continuing decline of the concerned sub-criteria.
Geographical area
Eugenia pouemboutii is endemic to New Caledonia where it is restricted to a small area of Plateau de Tiéa and Pic de Tiaoué. This two subpopulations are between Koné and Poya on the western coast of Grande Terre.
Population
The population size is not known. Based on field observations it is not a common species.

This species occurs in scrubland at an altitude range of 5 to 700 m asl. on serpentine substrate.
Threats
The main threats are linked to habitat damage by uncontrolled bushfires and potentially mining activities at Kopéto massif.
Conservation
Eugenia pouemboutii is not protected by legislation in New Caledonia and it does not occur in any protected area. It is recommended to inform the DSCGR (emergency services) on the presence of the species in the concerned areas. Searches in the surrounding ultramafic massifs are needed in order to better estimate its population and threats.
