Gea humboldtensis ined. is an endemic shrub/tree of New Caledonia. This species is insufficiently known and work is on-going for its taxonomic description. It is known of 3 sub-populations (Montagne des Sources, Haute-Ouinné, Prony). It is found in forest on ultramafic substrate at an altitudinal range of 300-1,000 m asl. Therefore, Gea humboldtensis ined. is assigned as Data Deficient (DD) for taxonomic reason. It should be re-assessed as soon as the description is available because it is presumed threatened.

Gea humboldtensis ined. is an endemic shrub/tree of New Caledonia. It is known of 3 sub-populations (Montagne des Sources, Haute-Ouinné, Prony).

Population size is unknown.

Habitat


It is found in forest on ultramafic substrate at an altitudinal range of 300-1,000 m asl.

Threats


Gea humboldtensis ined. may be threatened by mining activities (Vale NC in Prony) and in the future hydro-electric works (Haute-Ouinné).

Conservation


Gea humboldtensis ined. is not legally protected. It occurs in one protected area : réserve naturelle de la Montagne des Sources. Taxonomy needs to be established so that extinction risk can be assessed.
