Pycnandra canaliculata is endemic shrub or small tree of the southern part of Grande Terre in New Caledonia, from Forêt de la superbe to Forêt Nord. It is found in shrubland or dense humid forest at low and mid altitude on ultramafic substrate. The main impact identified comes from ongoing mining activities. Therefore, this species does not seem globally threatened. Its area of occupancy (AOO) and extent of occurrence (EOO) being respectively estimated to 80 and 596 km², Pycnandra canaliculata is considered Near Threatened (NT) close to VU B1ab(iii)+2ab(iii) with a decline of habitat quality and a number of locations close to 10.

Pycnandra canaliculata is endemic shrub or small tree of the southern part of Grande Terre, from Forêt de la superbe to Forêt Nord.

Population


It is known from 14 subpopulations: Forêt de la superbe, Forêts les électriques, Haute Yate, Mamié (concession picpoul),Barrage de Yaté, Riviere des Lacs, Riviere des Lacs (aval),Riviere-madeleine, Pic du Pin,Wadjana ,Haute kwe,Foret Nord, Valé Usine, Entre Valé usine et Wadjana.

Habitat


This species is found in shrubland or dense humid forest at low and mid altitude (150-550 m asl) on ultramafic substrate.

Threats


This species does not seem globally threatened. Some subpopulations may be threatened by mining activities: Goro (VALE).

Conservation


Unprotected by legislation, this species is found in five protected areas : Foret Nord, Chutes de la Madeleine, Pic du Pin, Rivière bleue, Barrage de Yaté
