in Northern ProvincePycnandra schmidii is an endemic tree restricted to four locations in Grande Terre: Tchingou, Boulinda, Me Maoya, Mé Ori. It is found in dense humid forest on ultramafic substrate at an altitudinal range 900-1,450 m asl. This species does not seem directly threatened at the moment, but occurs on massifs that could be targeted by mining companies in the future. In that case, this species could very well be listed as Endangered. Its area of occupancy (AOO) being estimated at 28 km², Pycnandra schmidii is considered Near Threatened (NT) close to VU D2.

It is known from four subpopulations.

Threats
This species does not seem directly threatened at the moment. However, it occurs on ultramafic massifs that could be targeted by mining companies in the future (Tchingou, Boulinda, Mé Maoya).
Conservation
Unprotected by legislation, this species is found in one protected area : Mont Do.
