Pycnandra sessilifolia is an endemic tree of New Caledonia distributed discontinuously on Grande Terre, from Massif du Tchingou to Nodela in the north and Kouakoué to Prony in the south. It is found in humid forest on ultramafic substrates at an altitudinal range of 200-800 m asl. This species is quite common, but some subpopulations are or could be impacted by ongoing and future mining activities. Therefore, Pycnandra sessilifolia is considered Near Threatened (NT).

Pycnandra sessilifolia is an endemic tree distributed discontinuously on Grande Terre in New Caledonia, from Massif du Tchingou to Nodela in the North and Kouakoué to Prony in the South.

Population


This species is quite common.

Habitat


Pycnandra sessilifolia is found in humid forest on ultramafic substrate at an altitudinal range 200-800 m asl.

Threats


Although this species does not seem globally threatened, some subpopluations are impacted by mining activities, either ongoing in Goro or future on the Tchingou massif.

Conservation


Unprotected by legislation, Pycnandra sessilifolia occurs in six protected areas : Haute Yaté, Massif du Kouakoué, Pic du Pin, Rivière bleue, Nodela, Pic du grand Kaori.
