Phelline lucida is an endemic shrub or tree of New Caledonia widespread on Grande Terre, from Tchingou in the north to Prony in the south. It occurs in forest and shrubland at low to high altitude (150-1,600 m asl) essentially on ultramafic substrates. This species does not seem directly threatened. This species has a high phylogenetic importance as it is part of the endemic family Phellinaceae. P. lucida is considered Least Concern (LC).

Threats
This species does not seem globally threatened. Some subpopulations may be threatened by mining activities: Camp des sapins (SLN), Kopeto (SLN).
Conservation
Unprotected by legislation, P. lucida occurs in several protected areas: Pic du Pin, Haute Dumbéa, Mont Humboldt, Haute Yaté, Vallée de la Thy, Mont Mou, Barrage de Yaté, Montagne des sources, Massif du Kouakoué, Rivière bleue, Mont Do, Forêt cachée, Forêt de Saille, la Dumbéa. This species has a high phylogenetic importance as it is part of the endemic family Phellinaceae.
