This species has a scattered distribution across the Grande Terre. It occurs in scrubland and gallery forests on ultramafic substrate up to 850 m asl. Its extent of occurrence (EOO) is equal to 8,471 km² and its area of occupancy (AOO) equal to 92 km², respectively. It is quite common and does not seem threatened. Therefore, Semecarpus balansae is listed as Least Concern (LC).
