Alyxia margaretae is an endemic liana of New Caledonia restricted to the north east of Grande Terre, from Aoupinié at the southern limit to Ouégoa, the northern limit. This species occurs between 50-800 m asl. and it is present in forest edges mostly in low elevation areas on volcano-sedimentary substrate. The main threats identified are uncontrolled bushfires on the low elevation subpopulations and invasive species on the habitat quality. Its extent of occurrence (EOO) and area of occupancy (AOO) are 1,229 and 56 km², respectively, with a number of locations estimated to be over 10. Therefore, Alyxia margaretae is listed as Near Threatened (NT) close to VU B1ab(iii,v)+B2ab(iii,v).
Geographical area
Alyxia margaretae is endemic to New Caledonia where it is restricted to the north east of Grande Terre, from Aoupinié at the southern limit to Ouégoa, the northern limit.
Population
The population size is not known.
Habitat
Alyxia margaretae occurs between 50-800 m asl. and it is present in forest edges mostly in low elevation areas on volcano-sedimentary substrate.
Threats
The main threats identified are uncontrolled bushfires on the low elevation subpopulations and invasive species on the habitat quality.
Conservation
Alyxia margaretae is protected by legislation in Province Nord and it does occur in two protected areas : Aoupinié and Mont Panié.
