Least Concern (LC) , assessed in 29/02/2016Meryta lecardii ined. is an endemic shrub/small tree of Grande Terre in New Caledonia. This species is spread from the south of Grande Terre (Port-Boisé, Vallée de la Thy, Rivière Bleue) to the central chain (Grandes Fougères, Aoupinié, Tchamba, Tango). It is found in humid forest on ultramafic or volcano-sedimentary substrates at an altitude over 30 m asl. This species does not seem directly threatened because its range is quite large. Meryta lecardii is assessed as Least Concern (LC).
Geographical area
Meryta lecardii ined. is an endemic shrub/small tree of Grande Terre in New Caledonia. This species is spread from the south of Grande Terre (Port-Boisé, Vallée de la Thy, Rivière Bleue) to the central chain (Grandes Fougères, Aoupinié, Tchamba).
Population
Population size is unknown. A forest species, it is found by scattered individuals.
Habitat
It is found in humid forest on ultramafic or volcano-sedimentary substrates at an altitude over 30 m asl.
Threats
This species does not seem directly threatened because its range is quite large. However, habitat quality for the subpopulation of Grandes Fougères is degraded by Rusa rusa deer (Rusa timorensis) impact.
Conservation
This new species is not legally protected. It is found in several protected areas : Parc provincial de la Rivière Bleue, réserve naturelle de la forêt de la Thy, Parc provincial des Grandes Fougères, réserve de nature sauvage de l'Aoupinié.
