Gymnostoma glaucescens is an endemic tree from New Caledonia, where it is distributed in the southern part of Grande Terre, from the far south to Paéoua. It occurs in shrubland on ultramafic and serpentine substrates from 20 to 950 m asl. This species is common on Paéoua and Boulinda areas. Some subpopulations may be impacted by habitat degradation by bushfires or mining activities, but globally this species does not seem to be threatened. Its extent of occurrence (EOO) and area of occupancy (AOO) are estimated at 5,975 and 136 km², respectively. Therefore, Gymnostoma glaucescens is listed as Least Concern (LC).

Gymnostoma glaucescens is endemic to New Caledonia where it is distributed in the southern part of Grande Terre, from the far south to Paéoua.
Population
Population size is unknown, but field observations indicate that this species is common on Paéoua and Boulinda areas.
Habitat
This species occurs in shrubland on ultramafic and serpentine substrates from 20 to 950 m asl.
Threats
Some subpopulations may be impacted by habitat degradation by bushfires or mining activities, but globally this species does not seem to be threatened.
Conservation
Gymnostoma glaucescens is not protected by legislation in New Caledonia but it occurs in five protected areas: Forêt cachée, Côte Oubliée, Nodela, Rivière bleue, Montagne des sources.
