Gymnostoma webbianum is an endemic tree of New Caledonia, where it has wide distribution across Grande Terre. It occurs in gallery forests or on the edge of rivers and creeksup to 950 m asl. This species is very common and it does not seem to be threatened. Its extent of occurrence (EOO) and area of occupancy (AOO) are estimated at 13,806 and 204 km², respectively. Therefore, G. webbianum is listed as Least Concern (LC).

Population size is unknown, but field observations indicate that this species is common.
Habitat
This species occurs in gallery forests or on the edge of rivers and creeks up to 950 m asl.
Threats
This species is very common and it does not seem to be threatened.
Conservation
Gymnostoma webbianum is unprotected by legislation in New Caledonia but it occurs in several protected areas: Côte Oubliée, Vallée de la Thy, Rivière bleue, Mont Panié, Montagne des sources, Haute Yaté.
