With an EOO of 4,900 km², an AOO of 100 km², and well over 20 known subpopulations, some of which occur in a protected areas, Podonephelium pachycaule is assigned a status of Least Concern (LC).

Population
It is a common species. Population size is not known.
Habitat
It occurs in dense humid forest on volcano-sedimentary substrates, at elevations from 100-900 m.
Threats
Some parts of the habitat of Podonephelium pachycaule could be impacted by fire or invasive species. However, most of the subpopulations of this species seem to be of low-concern.
Conservation
This species is not protected by local legislation. It occurs in four protected areas (réserve de nature sauvage du massif de l’Aoupinié, réserve de nature sauvage du mont Panié, Parc des Grandes Fougères and réserve naturelle de la Vallée de la Thy).Dense humid forests are a patrimonial ecosystem protected by the Code de l'Environnement of the Province Sud.It is recommended to survey the Mont Koghis and réserve naturelle de la Vallée de la Thy to check the species presence.
