Phlegmariurus balansae is a saxicolous and an epiphytic fern on tree's trunck, endemic of New Caledonia and widely distributed from south to the north east of Grande Terre. This species is common and abundant and it is found in dense humid forest at an altitude range of 300 and 1,500 m asl. With an extent of occurrence (EOO) equal to 5,753 km² and an area of occupancy (AOO) of 64 km², P. balansae is assessed as Least Concern (LC).

Geographical area


Phlegmariurus balansae is endemic to New Caledonia where it is widely distributed in Grande Terre, from Ignambi summit in the north east to Desmazures forest in the south.

Population


Population size is unknown, but field observations indicate the species is locally abundant.

Threats


There is no threat identified.

Conservation


Phlegmariurus balansae is not protected by legislation however it does occur in four protected areas: Pic Ningua, Vallée de la Thy, Côte Oubliée, Parc des Grandes Fougères.
