With an extent of occurrence (EOO) of 15,964 km2, an area of occupancy (AOO) of 372 km2 and around 30 known subpopulations, Hibbertia lucens is assigned a status of Least Concern (LC).

Hibbertia lucens is an autochtonous tree widely spread on the main island of New Caledonia and abundant in Fiji.
Population
Population size is unknown. As it is frequently a pioneer species on damaged formations, we can estimate that population size is increasing.
Habitat
In New Caledonia, it is found in shrubland and humid forest on ultramafic soils, as well as in humid forest on volcano-sedimentary substrate, at an altitudinal range 1-1000 m asl.
Threats
By the past, H.luncens was threatened by logging industry. Nowadays, it does not seem threatened.
Conservation
H.lucens is not protected by legislation but occur in large number of protected areas (réserve naturelle du Cap N’Dua, réserve naturelle des Chutes de la Madeleine, réserve naturelle de la forêt de Saille, réserve naturelle de la Vallée de la Thy, Parc provincial de la Rivière Bleue, réserve naturelle de la Forêt Nord, réserve naturelle du pic du grand Kaori, réserve naturelle du Massif du Kouakoué, Mont Do, Mont Mou ).
