Near Threatened (NT) , assessed in 08/09/2017

Oxera sp. nov. "aureocalyx" is a big woody climber endemic to New Caledonia, where it is restricted to the northeastern part of Grande Terre. It occurs in dense humid forest on volcano-sedimentary substrate from 500 to 1,030 m asl. Its area of occupancy (AOO) and extent of occurrence (EOO) are respectively estimated to be 24 and 76 km², respectively, and it is known from five locations. The main threat is habitat degradation by invasive species, mostly rusa deer (Rusa timorensis) and feral pigs. However, this species does not seem directly threatened because of its abundance and good regeneration. Therefore, Oxera sp. nov. "aureocalyx" is listed as Near Threatened (NT) close to VU B1ab(iii)+2ab(iii).
