Elaeocarpus gummatus is an endemic tree from New Caledonia, where it has a scattered distribution in the south of Grande Terre. It occurs in dense humid forest on ultramafic soil between 160 and 1,250 m asl. Its extent of occurrence (EOO) and area of occupancy (AOO) are 3,224 and 72 km², respectively. Some subpopulations are impacted by mining activities and invasive species, but globally the species is not threatened. Therefore, E. gummatus is listed as Least Concern (LC).

Geographical area


E. gummatus is endemic to New Caledonia, where it has a scattered distribution in the south of Grande Terre: from Le Carénage (Yaté) to Mé Maoya (Bourail).

Population size is unknown.

Habitat


E. gummatus occurs in dense humid forest on ultramafic soil between 500 and 1,250 m asl.

Threats


Some subpopulations are impacted by invasive species (rusa deer (Rusa timorensis) and feral pigs (Sus scrofa)), that cause habitat degradation, or mining activities (Kouaoua, SLN). But globally the species is not threatened.

Conservation


This species is protected by legislation in Province Nord and occurs in two protected areas: Massif du Kouakoué and Forêt de Saille.
