Pycnandra comptonioides is an endemic tree of New Caledonia, growing up to 10 m high. It is known from two subpopulations restricted to the north east of Grande Terre. The species is found in humid forest at an altitudinal range of 100 and 300 m asl. on a mixted substrates in a transition area between micaschist and a streams of serpentinites. The main threats identified are Rusa deer (Rusa timorensis) which contribute to the decline of habitat quality. Its extent of occurence (EOO) and area of occupancy (AOO) are estimated to 8 and 8 km², respectively, while its number of locations is equal to two. Pycnandra comptonioides is therefore considered as Endangered (EN) B1ab(iii,v)+2ab(iii,v) with an estimated decline of the habitat quality and the number of mature individuals.
