Least Concern (LC) , assessed in 02/05/2019Storthocalyx corymbosus is an endemic tree of New Caledonia, distributed in the northern half of Grande Terre, from Mt. Nakada to Mandjelia. This species occurs in dense humid forest on volcano-sedimentary substrates up to 1,000 m asl. This species is locally abundant and does not seem threatened. Therefore, despite having an Extent of Occurrence (EOO) equal to 4,388 km² and a minimum Area of Occupancy (AOO) of 188 km², S. corymbosus is assessed as Least Concern (LC).
Geographical area
Storthocalyx corymbosus is endemic to New Caledonia where it is distributed in the northern half of Grande Terre, from Mt. Nakada to Mandjelia.
Population
Population size is unknown but field observations indicate a quite common species.
Habitat
Storthocalyx corymbosus occurs in dense humid forest on volcano-sedimentary substrate up to 1,000 m asl.
Threats
S. corymbosus does not seem globally threatened.
Conservation
Storthocalyx corymbosus is not protected by legislation in New Caledonia but it does occur in 3 protected areas: Parc des Grandes Fougères, Aoupinié, Mont Panié.
