Near Threatened (NT) , assessed in 07/04/2017Platyspermation crassifolium is an endemic shrub of New Caledonia, restricted to a few mountains of southern Grande Terre. It occurs in altitudinal forest and shrubland (700-1,500 m asl) on ultramafic substrates. This species does not seem directly threatened even though natural bushfires (caused by thunderstorm) may impact some subpopulations. Platyspermation crassifolium has a high phylogenetic importance as it is part of the family Alseuosmiaceae which gathers 6 species worldwide. Its area of occupation (AOO) and extent of occurrence (EOO) being respectively estimated to 48 and 348 km², Platyspermation crassifolium is considered Near Threatened (NT) close to VU D2.

Platyspermation crassifolium is an endemic shrub of New Caledonia, restricted to a few mountains of southern Grande Terre (Humboldt, Kouakoué, Haute-Pourina, Montagne des Sources).
Population
It occurs as scatterred individuals.

It occurs in altitudinal forest and shrubland (700-1,500 m asl) on ultramafic substrates.

Unprotected by legislation, this species occurs in several protected areas : Rivière bleue, Mont Humboldt, Haute Yaté, Massif du Kouakoué, Montagne des sources Platyspermation crassifolium has a high phylogenetic importance as it is part of the family Alseuosmiaceae which gathers 6 species worldwide.
