Bocquillonia spicata is an endemic shrub with a scattered distribution between the northwestern massifs and the Massif du Sud in the south of Grande Terre. It is found in in shrubland and dense humid forest on ultramafic substrate, from 5 m to 500 m asl. With an extent of occurrence (EOO) equal to 7,070 km² and an area of occupancy (AOO) of 112 km², B. spicata is assessed as Least Concern (LC).

B. spicata is an endemic species to New Caledonia with a scattered distribution between the nortwestern massifs and the Massif du Sud in the south of Grande Terre.

Population


Population size is unknown but field observations show it is a common species.

Habitat


B. spicata occurs in dense humid forest and shrubland on ultramafic substrate, at an altitude range from 5 to 600 m asl.

Threats


This species does not seem to be threatened, although some subpopulations may be impacted by fires, feral pigs (Sus scrofa) and mining activities (Tiebaghi (SLN), Plateau (SLN), Goro (VALE)).

Conservation


This species is protected by legislation in Province Nord and it occurs in three protected areas: Haute Yaté, Barrage de Yaté and Rivière bleue.
