Least Concern (LC) , assessed in 05/04/2018Cleidion lasiophyllum is an endemic shrub or tree of New Caledonia, with a large and discontinuous distribution between the Massif du Sud and the northeastern part of Grande Terre. This species is quite common and it occurs in dense humid forest on ultramafic substrate, from 25 to 650 m asl. With an extent of occurrence (EOO) equal to 5,288 km² and an area of occupancy (AOO) of 124 km², C. lasiophyllum is assessed as Least Concern (LC).
Geographical area
C. lasiophyllum is endemic to New Caledonia where it has a large and scattered distribution between the Massif du Sud and the northeastern part of Grande Terre.
Population
Population size is unknown but field observations show it is a common species.
Habitat
C. lasiophyllum occurs in dense humid forest on ultramafic substrate, from 25 to 650 m asl.
Threats
This species does not seem to be threatened, although some subpopulations may be impacted by fires, Rusa deer (Rusa timorensis) and feral pigs (Sus scrofa).
Conservation
C. lasiophyllum is not protected by any legislation in New Caledonia but it does occur in several protected areas: Haute Dumbéa, Haute Yaté, Vallée de la Thy, Rivière bleue and la Dumbéa.
