Red List Status -
Data Deficient (DD) , assessed in 29/11/2019Pleioluma dioica is an endemic tree of New Caledonia, where it is only known from two distant stations on Grande Terre. It has been observed in dense humid forest on volcano-sedimentary substrate between 600 and 750 m asl. Its extent of occurrence (EOO) and area of occupancy (AOO) are estimated to be 27 and 8 km², respectively, and threats are not yet known. This new species is similar to P. tchingouensis, which is instead restricted to ultramafic substrates. P. dioica is still poorly understood and is therefore listed as Data Deficient (DD).
Geographical area
P. dioica is endemic to New Caledonia, where it is only known from two distant stations on the east coast of Grande Terre: Mt. Mandjélia and Canala.
Population
Population size is unknown.
Habitat
This tree grows in mid elevation dense humid forest on volcano-sedimentary substrate between 600 and 750 m asl.
Threats
No significant threats to this species have been identified on any station.
Conservation
P. dioica is not protected by legislation in New Caledonia and it does not occur in any protected areas. Prospection and collections along the east coast of Grande Terre are necessary in order to gain better knowledge of this poorly known species.
