Mallotus repandus is a native shrub or tree of New Caledonia largely distributed in Grande Terre as well as in Ile des Pins and Loyalty Islands (Maré, Lifou, Tiga island and Ouvéa). It is present in humid forest and secondry forests on calcerous and volcano-sedimentary substrate, up to 350 m asl. With an extent of occurrence (EOO) equal to 49,387 km² and an area of occupancy (AOO) of 88 km², M. repandus is assessed as Least Concern (LC).

Geographical area


M. repandus is a native species where it is largely distributed in Grande Terre as well as in Ile des Pins and Loyalty Islands (Maré, Lifou, Tiga island and Ouvéa). It is also found in Vanuatu.

Population


Population size is unknown but field observations show it is a common and abundant species.

Habitat


M. repandus occurs in humid forest and secondry forests on calcareous and volcano-sedimentary substrate, up to 350 m asl.

Threats


M. repandus may be impacted by urbanisations and fires. However, it has a large distribution and natural regeneration has been observed. It does not seem threatened.

Conservation


M. repandus is not protected by any legislation in New Caledonia and it does not occur in any protected area.
