Ischaemum murinum is an autochtonous herb from New Caledonia where it is distributed mainly in littoral habitats across Grande Terre with some isolated observations (Yaté, Ouaième, Païta (M’Bée) and Prony as well as in Ile des Pins and Loyalty islands (Maré, Lifou, Ouvéa, Beautemps-Beaupré). This species occurs in littoral habitats on calcareous substrate as well as in marshland up to 50 m asl. This species is very common in Ile des Pins and it does not seem to be threatened. Its extent of occurrence (EOO) and area of occupancy (AOO) are estimated at 38,175 and 84 km², respectively. Therefore, Ischaemum murinum is listed as Least Concern (LC).

Population size is unknown, but field observations indicate that this species is very common.

Threats
This species is very common in Ile des Pins and it does not seem to be threatened.
Conservation
Ischaemum murinum is not protected by legislation in New Caledonia and it does not occur in any protected area.
