Leptochloa decipiens subsp. decipiens is an autochtonous herb from New Caledonia. It has a scattered distribution across Grande Terre. This subspecies grows near seashore in dry forest edges, littoral forest on various non ultramafic substrates up to 220 m asl. The main threats are rusa deer (Rusa timorensis), urbanisation, bushfires and overgrazing. Its extent of occurrence (EOO) and area of occupancy (AOO) are 5,115 and 68 km², respectively, and the number of locations is estimated to be six.Therefore, Leptochloa decipiens subsp. decipiens is listed as Vulnerable (VU) under criteria B1ab (ii,iii,v)+2ab(ii,iii,v), with a continuous decline in its AOO, its quality of habitat and its number of mature individuals.
