The main threats are ongoing mining activities (Poum, Tiebaghi and Kopéto) and recurrent bushfires. Its extent of occurrence (EOO) and area of occupancy (AOO) are respectively estimated to be 517 km² and 36 km² while the number of locations is estimated to be five. Lepidocupania squamosa is therefore assessed as Endangered (EN) with criteria B1ab(i,ii,iii,v)+2ab(i,ii,iii,v) with a continuing decline of all concerned sub-criteria.

Conservation
This species is not protected by legislation and it does not occur in any protected areas. It is recommended to carry ex situ and in situ conservation efforts, in particular seeds banking, monitoring of known subpopulations and preserving viable populations on delimited areas.
