Leichhardtia lyonsioides is an endemic liana from New Caledonia with a scattered distribution accross the Grande Terre. This species occurs in dense humid forest on volcano-sedimentary substrates from 600 to 1,000 m asl. The southern low population at La Foa (Plateau de Dogny, Koindé and Pic Vincent) are highly threatened by Rusa deer (Rusa timorensis) and the northern population are also impacted by Rusa deer and feral pigs (Sus scrofa), but to a lesser degree. Its number of location is estimated to be at least 8 and its Area of Occupancy and Extent of Occurrence are 44 and 3,567 km², respectively. Therefore, Leichhardtia lyonsioides is listed as Vulnerable (VU) B1ab(iii,v)+2ab(iii,v) with a decline of the habitat quality and number of mature individuals.

Conservation
Leichhardtia lyonsioides is not protected by legislation in New Caledonia and it does not occur in 2 protected areas: Aoupinié, Parc des Grandes Fougères. This species should be included in Province Sud and Province Nord legislation for a better protection of the species. It is recommended to inform the DSCGR (emergency services), responsible for the coordination of the firefighting effort.
