Leichhardtia neocaledonica is an endemic small shrub from New Caledonia where it is restricted to the north western coast of New Caledonia, from Plaine des Gaïacs to Poum as well as in Baaba island. This species occurs in low shrubland (5-270 m asl.) on ultramafic substrates. This species is threatened by bushfires. Its Area of Occupancy (AOO) and Extent of Occurrence (EOO) are respectively estimated to be 52 and 1,266 km² and its number of location estimated to be over 10. Therefore, Leichhardtia neocaledonica is considered Near Threatened (NT) close to VU B1ab(iii,v)+2ab(iiii,v) with an estimated decline of all the concerned subcriteria.

Leichhardtia neocaledonica is not protected by legislation in New Caledonia and it does not occur in any protected areas.
