Leichhardtia oubatchensis is an endemic small shrub from New Caledonia where it is restricted to the nord of Grande Terre. This species occurs in shrubland and humid forest on ultramafic and volcano-sedimentary substrates at an altitude range of 20 and 700 m asl. This species is threatened by ongoing mining activities at Taom and Poum and bushfires. Its Area of Occupancy (AOO) and Extent of Occurrence (EOO) being respectively estimated to be 120 and 2,983 km² and its number of locations is estimated to be over 10. Therefore, Leichhardtia oubatchensis is considered Near Threatened (NT) close to VU B1ab(ii,iii,v)+2ab(ii,iii,v), close to VU B1ab(ii,iii,v)+2ab(ii,iii,v) with an estimated decline of all the concerned subcriteria.
Geographical area
Leichhardtia oubatchensis is endemic to New Caledonia where it is restricted to the north of Grande Terre, from plateau de Tango to Boat Pass at Poum.
Population
Population size is not known.
Habitat
Leichhardtia oubatchensis occurs in shrubland and humid forest on ultramafic and volcano-sedimentary substrates at an altitude range of 20 and 700 m asl.
Threats
The main impact identified areas are mining activities at Taom and Tiebaghi and bushfires in all the remaining locations.
Conservation
Leichhardtia oubatchensis is not protected by legislation in New Caledonia and it does not occur in any protected areas.
